How we do it
The first job is working out what you’re actually looking at, because green algae, black mould in the seals, traffic film and oxidised plastic all need slightly different handling. Once we know, the frames get a low-pressure soft wash with a solution made for uPVC, which breaks down the growth and grime without pushing water past the seals.
Corners, seals, beads and sills get gone over by hand, since that’s where the muck hides and a rinse alone won’t shift it. The glass is cleaned at the same time, then the whole lot gets a final rinse so nothing is left sitting on the plastic.
Why it matters
uPVC gets sold as the material you never have to think about, but the weather here has other ideas. Frames on the shaded side of a house stay damp for days after rain, and the algae that grows on them spreads along the sills and into the seals if it’s left. On busy roads through Prescot and Huyton the frames pick up traffic film on top, a grey layer that dulls the white and clings on through the rain.
A proper clean sharpens up the whole front of the house in an afternoon. Because the solution kills the algae and mould instead of smearing it around, the frames stay brighter for longer, and the seals stay in better nick without black growth working into the rubber.
