Conservatory roofs go downhill quietly. The green film creeps up the panels a little at a time, then one day the room feels gloomy even in the middle of summer. A wet Merseyside winter and a couple of overhanging trees will fill the channels with moss while algae spreads across the glass, and bird mess bakes onto the finials on top.
How we clean it
- Check the roof first. Glass and polycarbonate need different handling, so we work out which you have, how old it is and what it can safely take.
- Clear the debris by hand. Moss, twigs and leaf litter come out of the valleys and roof gutters before any water goes near the panels.
- Soft wash the panels. Low pressure and the right cleaning solution lift the algae and grime without scratching the surface or pushing water past the seals.
- Wash down the frames. Frames, glazing bars and finials are cleaned and rinsed, and the bird mess comes off with them.
- Rinse and check the drainage. Everything gets a final rinse and we make sure the roof gutters are running clear before we pack up.
Why a jet wash is the wrong tool here
Plenty of people around Prescot and St Helens search for conservatory jet washing, and the thinking makes sense: a pressure washer shifts a filthy driveway, so why not the conservatory? Because the roof can’t take it. High pressure can craze polycarbonate, scratch glass and drive water past the seals into the room below. Soft washing gets the same roof clean gently, kills the algae rather than just skimming it off, and leaves the seals alone. We save the jet washing for driveways and patios, where it belongs.
