Cladding picks up the same problems everywhere on Merseyside: green algae creeping up from the bottom edge, black streaks running down from trims and sills, and a general dullness on walls that sit in shade and never properly dry out. The newer estates around Prescot and Whiston have plenty of composite and timber-effect boarding, and it greens up just as readily as the older uPVC.
How we clean it
- Look before we spray. We identify the cladding type and check its condition, because uPVC, composite and painted boards each want a different solution and dwell time.
- Prep the area. Loose dirt and cobwebs are brushed off, and any plants below the wall are wetted down and covered.
- Apply the soft wash. A low-pressure application works the cleaning solution across the panels so it breaks down the algae and grime at the root instead of smearing it about.
- Dwell, then rinse. The solution is given time to work, then rinsed off thoroughly, leaving no residue on the boards and no water behind them.
Why it matters
Grubby cladding drags the look of the whole house down, but the damage side matters more. Algae and black streaks hold moisture against the boards and joints, and a wall that stays damp weathers faster than one that sheds water. The temptation is to go at it with a jet wash, and that’s the one thing cladding can’t stand: high pressure cracks panels, lifts paint and pushes water into the cavity behind. Soft washing gets the growth off and keeps the boards intact, which is why it’s our standard method for cladding, render and anything else with a delicate face. The pressure washing stays on the driveways and patios where it does its best work.
